Crazy Stupid Love (2011, 1hr 58, rated 12A

After a couple of slightly tougher watches, we thought it was time for something a little bit more upbeat. As this week’s movie, Crazy Stupid Love becomes our first rom-com on the Streamers Film Club but trust us it’s a good one, even for non-fans of the genre.  We love it and think you will too, plus there should be plenty to talk about using our fancy new Facebook comments system.  Here goes …

At forty-something, straight-laced Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the dream—good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his “perfect” life quickly unravels.  Worse, in today’s single world, Cal, who hasn’t dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth. Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protégé to handsome, thirty-something player Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling).

And, as always, if you have an Amazon Prime subscription you can watch the whole film for free  here. Enjoy.

Why we chose it

  • Because we love it and hope you do too.  It’s a rom-com but with brains and heart.
  • We’ve given you a few rough weeks and we like to mix it up.
  • Moore, Carell, Tomei, Bacon, Stone, Gosling – quite a cast and something for everyone.
